David Coulson’s project beautifully fuses traditional Japanese architecture with West Coast modernism. Handcrafted post-and-beam construction, oversized windows, and walls finished in natural American clay plaster create a warm, organic feel. At its heart, custom-built oversized shoji screens filter light and define space, evoking serenity. This home pays homage to Japan’s architectural elegance while embracing modern Western openness, creating a timeless, meditative living space.
